Consumer response

Several surveys conducted all around the world show that the more people are informed about the various benefits of cellular agriculture, the more willing they are to accept cultured meat.



- EUROPE : Formo conducted the first consumer acceptance study on attitudes towards non-animal dairy products, in collaboration with Chris Bryant of the University of Bath Their results show that consumers understand technology and want to try these products. More than 5,000 people in five countries (including Germany and the UK) were surveyed. More than 70% of the participants responded that they are willing to buy these products.

- Portugal, Spain, Italy : 66% of population willing to try cultivated meat, 49% perceive cultivated meat as promising or acceptable, respondents of 18-30 years of age had the highest acceptance. Source: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37408985

- USA : Consumers in the USA are open to food made through precision fermentation, a 2023 study Hartman Group conducted in partnership with Cargill and Perfect Day found. Even when adults are not familiar with precision fermentation and don’t see a description of what it means, 41% of USA adults would purchase a product made through that method. That likelihood doubles to 80% among adults who are familiar with the technology and see a description on product packaging. - CHINA : People surveyed in China were very or extremely likely to buy cultured meat : 90% said they would eat cultivated meat, twice as likely as people in the US in the same study (59.3% vs. 29.8 %) and 10% more than the Indian participants. Most studies also suggest that acceptance of cultured meat is higher among men, educated people, young people, people who live in cities and people who eat meat. - MALAYSIA : 51% of Malaysian survey respondents saying that if 'lab-grown' or 'artificially recreated' products were available, they would find them quite or very appealing.
